Why Sociology?

An undergraduate degree in sociology provides students with the necessary skills to be successful in the fast changing job market. Graduates from the department of sociology appeal to employers who are looking for strong critical thinking, communication skills, ethical judgment, the ability to work in diverse teams and openness to continuous learning.

AdvisingWe encourage all undergraduate sociology students to make their advising appointment through the Slate system, which is accessible 24/7.

Appointments are currently being offered via Zoom, phone, on in person by request from 8:30am-5:00pm, M-F. Please contact the advisor directly if you need accommodations outside of these hours.   Instructions:

  • Proceed to the Slate system, select the "Advising" tab and verify that your advisor is correct.
  • Select a day and time available for your appointment, and note in the comments which appointment style you prefer, reason for your appointment, etc.
  • Once you have scheduled your appointment, you will receive an email confirmation. If you've selected a virtual appointment, you will receive the link under the appointment style. The link is labeled: "virtual" and will be available to join, 5 minutes prior to scheduled time of your appointment. You will not receive a separate link, and/or meeting ID and password.
