Where will your Internship take you?
Opening Doors...
Students who participate in an internship in their undergraduate careers often find
invaluable experience in their chosen career field, not only by introducing them to
real world experience, but also through learning a variety of practical skills and
networking with others in the sociological fields. Students often find that engaging
in an internship also opens doors for success in the workforce, and in applying for
graduate school.
We encourage undergraduates to seek out internships through the information provided
below, as well as an adviser who can provide further resources or contacts in their
internship interests. If you think an internship could be right for you, schedule
a meeting with your advisor to discuss how an internship can apply to your degree
plan!
Impactful Experiences...
Jodie is just one of the many examples of an how an internship can make an impact on a student's future.
During my time with DHS, I had the privelege of working with permanency workers in various settings, from court hearings to family visits, safety meetings, case planning, and community resource engagements. Jodie told us that “This hands-on experience allowed me to refine my interpersonal and communication skills, allowing me to build trust and collaborate effectively with clients, colleagues, and community partners.”

Opportunities Await...
We encourage those interested to browse through our directory of various organizations
and businesses that have extended internship offers to our current and past students.
Sociology majors who participate in an internship may also earn course credit by enrolling in SOC 4990. Your advisor and faculty mentors
can help you identify internship opportunities, but it is up to you to apply for and
secure an internship. You will also need to identify a Sociology faculty who is willing
to serve as your Internship Advisor in order to enroll in SOC 4990. It is best to
ask a faculty who you have taken a course from and has expertise in the substantive
area of the internship.
