The 43rd Annual Juried Student Exhibition was held Sunday, April 28th. It was open to students from all levels of undergraduate studies in studio art and graphic design, this highly competitive exhibition celebrated the artistic excellence achieved by our students while at OSU. The artwork featured in this show was selected by two jurors, professionals in both the visual arts and graphic design fields. This exhibition showcased each discipline within the Art Department with pieces ranging from motion animation to ceramic sculpture.

 

The reception began at 3 pm in the Gardiner Gallery with light snacks and refreshments. The awards ceremony took place outdoors on the south side of the Bartlett Center at 4 pm. The awards ceremony announced the departmental scholarships, the three outstanding seniors in Studio Art, Graphic Design and Art History, respectively, and the 24 prizes for the juried student exhibition.

Meet the Jurors

Jason Alejandro headshotJason Alejandro is a Puerto Rican graphic designer and educator based in New Jersey. He is currently an Assistant Professor at The College of New Jersey. Jason has produced award-winning design work for publishers and institutions of higher education. His professional experience includes roles in book design, environmental graphic design and art direction. Jason’s work has been recognized by Communication Arts, AUP, The New York Book Show, and the Society of Typographic Arts. He holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Vermont College of Fine Arts.

 

Laura George mossy rockLaura Primozic George is an artist in Bloomington, IL. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, and her undergraduate degree from the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University. From 2006-2007, she was an artist in residence at the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology. Her work has been exhibited across the country: Seattle, WA; Lincoln, NE; Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Philadelphia, PA; and Schuylerville, NY. Her work was included in the 4th Midwest Biennial, titled superusted, at The Soap Factory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, Grand Rapids, MI. Laura has work in the permanent collections of the Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, MN; Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; and Saratoga Clay Center, Schuylerville, NY. Laura is currently the Facilities Coordinator in the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.

Closed on Sundays, university holidays and home game days. 
  
Exhibitions and programs in the Gardiner Gallery of Art are sponsored by OSU student fees, the College of Arts and Sciences and donors to the gallery. All events are free and open to the public.
