75 Years of Geoscience Field Education

The summer of 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the OSU geology field camp
located near Cañon City, Colorado. Join one of the finest field courses in the country, where students learn a mix of traditional and modern geoscience field methods. The surrounding area provides opportunities for hiking, camping and other exciting activities during free time!

Traditional and Modern Geoscience Field Methods

Students learn a foundation of traditional mapping and measurement methods before gaining experience in modern instrumentation and data collection.

Traditional orienteering and geologic mapping exercises

Stratigraphic section measurement of Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks

Digital mapping exercises designed to give students experience with modern field methods

Geophysical measurement, data processing, and interpretation, and applications to environmental geosciences

Local Adventures

Students have free time to explore the surrounding Front Range area, with plenty to do in Cañon City, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Denver.
