Statistics

A degree in statistics is highly flexible in the job market. For the last several years, statistician (data analyst or data scientist) has been listed as one of the "top jobs" in the U.S. Statistics affects so many different disciplines: insurance, business and marketing, pharmaceutical industry, quality control in manufacturing, education and government. So, whether you are interested in science, business or social science, there is a place for a statistician. In addition to training in a variety of statistical methods or applications, a statistician must communicate well with both technical and non-technical audiences. 

Undergraduate Majors

Statistics

This degree is very flexible since the student can select upper-division courses in an area of specialization. Students with plans to earn an advanced degree in statistics should select this four-year degree.

This option guides the student through the statistics, business and mathematics courses that support a career in actuarial science.

Statistics: Business Essentials

This option identifies those courses a student must complete in order to apply to the MBA program in the Spears School of Business at OSU. Upon the successful completion of this option, a student can earn an MBA in one additional year.

Data science is a rapidly growing field of study. Students combine their statistical decision making skills with data management skills. This option guides the student through a selection of statistics and management information systems courses that support a career or graduate degree in data science.

This minor requires 15 hours of study.
