I am interested in characterizing the Ca2+ signaling pathway in the human pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Specifically, I am working towards elucidating the function of the calcium-regulated protein, CarP, a novel protein in this network. We know that this protein regulates virulence and metabolism in P. aeruginosa in response to elevated Ca2+, however its regulatory function remains largely unknown. To determine its function, I am using a variety of biochemical, structural, genetic and phenotypic approaches.
