Scholarships & Financial Aid

Departmental Scholarships are available to incoming and transfer students pursuing full-time BA & BFA degrees within the Department of Theatre. All awards are credited towards the students’ bursar accounts for the following semester(s). Individual award amounts are between $500-$2500 annually. Additionally, there are Professional Development Awards and Emergency Need-Based Awards available for students, with applications accepted at any time during the year.

 

Incoming and Transfer Students

The Donna Roberts Clack Endowed Theatre Scholarship

The Department's most competitive scholarship. There are up to four Clack Scholars every year. Upperclassmen may be awarded the Clack Scholarship on the basis of an exemplary GPA and steady involvement in the life of the Department. The scholarship may be renewed.

The Burris DeBenning Theatre Scholarship

Awarded to Outstanding incoming freshman Theatre Major. Renewable for up to four years. Must maintain minimum 3.0 GPA and steady involvement in the life of the Department.

The Sarah K. Hoyt Endowed Scholarship in Theatre

For a first year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Theatre. Selection is based on demonstrated academic merit with 3.0 - 4.0 GPA, financial need, and possible interest in theatre education. Award may be renewed.

The Olive Hilles Endowed Scholarship Fund

For a Theatre student voted on by a committee appointed by the Head of the Department of Theatre.

The Theatre Student Scholarship Fund

Awarded to promising candidates entering the B.A. in Theatre.

 

Current Students

The Billye Sue Harmon Scholarship in Theatre

For an outstanding new student in the Department of Theatre as evidenced by high quality work in the classroom and in productions during the first year enrolled.

 

The D. Terry Martin Scholarship

For the theatre student who has demonstrated the most progress in the preceding academic year.

 

The Jeanne Adams Wray Endowed Scholarship Fund

For an outstanding theatre student who has current or past experience in community theatre.

 

The Jerry and Judy Davis Theatre Endowment Fund

For Theatre students with a primary emphasis in technical theatre.

 

The Myr-Lou Rollins-Wade Endowed Scholarship in A & S

For a student pursuing a BA in Theatre, with preference to emphasis on performance. Student classified as a junior or senior with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated interest in creative movement or dance. Financial need considered.

 

The Myr-Lou Rollins-Wade Endowed Scholarship Fund

For a student pursuing a degree in Theatre, with emphasis on dance. Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Financial need considered. Size and number of awards determined by committee.

 

The Olive Hilles Endowed Scholarship Fund

For a Theatre student voted on by a committee appointed by the Head of the Department of Theatre

 

The Richard Melot Endowed Scholarship for Drama

For an outstanding Theatre student with a GPA between 3.5 and 4.0.

 

The Thad Scott Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

For an Oklahoma resident and full-time student, classified as a junior and pursuing the B.A. in Theatre with interests in production. Must have a GPA between 2.5 and 4.0 and provide documented financial need.

 

The Vivia Locke Scholarship Fund

For a Theatre student with a high degree of exemplary participation in the life of the Department, who has completed two years in the B.A. program, and is classified as a junior.

 

Sudden Financial Need and/or Professional Development

The Glen E. Lemon Theatre Scholarship Fund

For the purposes of student professional development, conference travel, auditions, study abroad, etc. Awards are ongoing and students may apply at any time. Glen E. Lemon Theatre Scholarship Application

In order to be eligible for Department Theatre Scholarships:

  • Students must be enrolled full time in the Department of Theatre and in good academic standing with the University, which requires a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • To be competitive for these scholarships, your departmental GPA should be atleast 3.0 with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Current first year students are eligible to apply; it is expected that award recipients will have earned a minimum of 24 credits by the end of their second semester on campus.
  • Awards will be based primarily on achievement within the department, with consideration given to overall academic success. Therefore your GPA, your steady involvement in the life of the department, and your application materials are the main criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in determining award recipients.
  • Students with renewable scholarship awards must apply for the scholarship each year to be considered for award renewal. 
  • Students receiving an award are required to write a Thank You letter to the donor prior to receiving scholarship funds.

How to apply:

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

  1. Consider each Theatre Scholarship's criteria and whether you meet the requirements prior to completing and submitting your application online. 
  2. Prepare a Narrative to upload in pdf format. Please put your name on your typed narrative. In 500 to 1000 words, please address the following:
    1. Why are you best fit to receive the scholarship(s) you selected?
    2. What are your career goals in relation to your major?
    3. Indicate individual circumstances confronting your current financial standing.
  3. Prepare your current Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) to upload in pdf format. 
  4. Fill out the application form online.
  • Submission Deadline: 5:00 PM, January 31st
  • Applications received after submission deadline will not be considered.
  • Application implies consent of the applicant to have their records, including transcripts, viewed by the members of the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Theatre.
