Bio

     Afra is a current M.S. student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the department of Sociology. She completed her bachelor's on Disaster and Human Security Management from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in 2022. She was awarded the Vice Chancellor Merit Scholarship (2022) for her academic excellence. She has a keen interest in climate change, environmental sociology, gender studies, public health and disaster management. During her undergraduate program, she was involved in a number of research projects related to public health, climate change, mass media and people’s perception. Her work was published in the International Journal of Public Health and Public Organization review (Springer Nature). Prior starting her masters in OSU she worked in International Centre for Climate Change and Development for some time in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She was also a United Nations Online Volunteer where she worked for Kenya and Zambia by contributing towards poverty reduction, quality education, children and social development, resolving conflicts, rights promotion and protection and girls’ education. Afra has also participated and presented in different national and international conferences and seminars. Her journey to the Sociology department at Oklahoma State University will be a significant step towards her involvement and contribution to the subject of environmental sociology that she wants to pursue.
