Information for Faculty
The purpose of having the faculty nominate students is to increase student-faculty interaction and to make the student feel seen by the faculty and department; after all, recognition by instructor can be a big motivator for students.
It will open on April 1, 2025. All applications are due May 30, 2025.
This page provides information to guide CS faculty through the nomination process of students for CS Student Awards. A faculty can nominate any number of graduate or undergraduate student(s) for the Outstanding Research, Scholar and/or Leadership Award as long as they think the student(s) meet the standards the department is trying to reach. PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:
STEP 1:
Check the Stated Eligibility table:

Undergraduate Students Eligibility:
- Must be a Computer Science major
- Must be a Junior or Senior.
- Not a recipient of previous year’s Outstanding CS Leadership AwardPrevious Awardees
Graduate Students Eligibility:
- Must have completed core courses + prerequisites
- Not winner of previous year's outstanding award Previous Awardees
Ph.D Students:
- Student must be within first 2 years of their program
Nomination By:
Faculty (required)
- Tips: If you are confident in your scholarly activities, you can also request a faculty to nominate you (the Faculty reserves the right to refuse to nominate)
Nomination Criteria:
- Main Criteria: Course grade
- Special consideration will also be given to students who participate enthusiastically in class, as well as help others learn (e. g. class forum participation)
- Researcher Award Requirements
Undergraduate Students Eligibility:
- Must be a student with an accepted paper, which was produced while at OSU
- Must have a high-quality first author paper.
- The final paper must have been accepted/published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings (during the previous year)
Graduate Students Eligibility:
- Must be a student with an accepted paper, which was produced while at OSU

- Research Advisor or Self
Nomination Criteria:
- Main Criteria: quality of paper
- Leadership Award Requirements
Undergraduate Students Eligibility:
- Must be registered under OSU CS Department
- Not a recipient of previous year’s Outstanding CS Leadership Award Previous Awardees
Graduate Students Eligibility:
- Must be registered under OSU CS Department
- Not a recipient of previous year’s Outstanding CS Leadership Award Previous Awardees

- Self
Nomination Criteria:
If you know a student with leadership qualities, please talk to them and encourage them to apply! Some leadership qualities we are looking for but not limited to:

- Involvement in departmental club
- Level of engagement in the departmental clubs and events
- Other extracurricular/volunteer activities in college/campus
STEP 2:
After checking the Stated Eligibility tables in step 1, choose an award to nominate the student(s) to.
STEP 3:
Download and use the following recommendation letter template below. You will have an option to upload the Recommendation Letter in STEP 4.

STEP 4:
How To Nominate: Once you have decided to nominate student(s), by submitting the form below it will automatically send an email notification to student(s) notifying them that they have been nominated and the instructions how to apply, you will be cc'd in the email.
STEP 5:
After Nomination: Please check in with the student once to see if they have applied.
