Kristi Carpenter

Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Kristi Carpenter

Kristi Carpenter is a clinical assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders.  She came to Oklahoma State University as an adjunct clinical faculty in August of 2019. In her role with the department, she wears several hats. She is the acting graduate advisor and the OSU Speech-Language Hearing clinic director in addition to being a clinical assistant professor. She teaches the clinical methods class for undergraduate majors. This class is crucial for preparing future speech-language pathologists to provide effective, evidence-based care. During this class, the student objectives are to understand the clinical processes, develop clinical skills, apply evidence-based practice and emphasize the importance of ethical and professional conduct in clinical settings.

Mrs. Carpenter has over 33 years of clinical experience.  She worked for 28 years for the Oklahoma State Department of Health in the birth-3 population serving families with children with disabilities. Mrs. Carpenter is a licensed speech-language pathologist and holds her certificate of clinical competency, auditory verbal therapist. She is Hanen certified in “It takes Two to Talk” and “More than Words.

Mrs. Carpenter has a passion for serving families with children with hearing loss, sensory deficits, language deficits and children on the autism spectrum. Mrs. Carpenter’s favorite part about working at OSU is that she gets to know and mentor all the graduate students that come through the CDIS department. One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an SLP is witnessing the tangible improvements in my client’s lives. Boosting confidence and empowering parents to be their child’s therapist is the greatest reward.

Prior to beginning her career, Mrs. Carpenter completed degrees at the University of Oklahoma (M.S., 1990) and Oklahoma State University (B.S., 1989). Outside of work, she is married with a son and a daughter who both just completed their freshman year at Oklahoma State.
