Pre-Nursing Certificate
CAS can help you on a path to a career in nursing. Our two-year curriculum exposes you to fundamental courses that prepare you for admission to a BSN-RN program. While OSU does not offer a nursing degree, we strive to provide you with the highest quality of knowledge and groundwork to best prepare you for nursing school.
Overview
There are multiple pathways to earning your registered nurse (RN) license. One path is to complete two years of college-level prerequisite courses, and then apply to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Another path is to complete the certificate while completing a non-nursing bachelor’s degree at OSU. While OSU does not offer a complete nursing degree, we strive to provide you with the highest quality of knowledge and groundwork to best prepare you for a BSN-RN program. A certificate in Pre-Nursing includes the prerequisite courses for the traditional BSN-RN programs in Oklahoma and, with a bachelor's degree, the prerequisites for an accelerated BSN-RN program. You will take general education, science, arts, and humanities courses that are required for admission to a BSN-RN nursing school. All students planning on nursing school should check the prerequisite requirements for the programs they intend to apply for. Most students will need to take one or two additional courses to supplement the Certificate.
Pre-Professional Health & Law Support Services
The Pre-Professional Health & Law Support Services office provides resources for OSU students considering and planning for future professional careers in health or law related fields. In addition to your academic advisor, the pre-professional team can help you with additional support and resources in the exploration of potential professional school careers and programs, evaluation of a professional path, academic preparation, extra-curricular preparation, and the application process to facilitate student success towards professional school.
