Bio

Lexi Almy (she/her) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology. She is originally from a small town in west Texas and is a first-generation college student who fell in love with teaching and education. Lexi taught sociology for four years at Northern Oklahoma College, two years at Tulsa Community College, and has been teaching as a graduate student at Oklahoma State University for two years. While pursuing her Ph.D. at OSU, she has specialized in social inequalities and social psychology, with an emphasis on mental health, intersectionality and Black feminist theory, the social psychology of emotions, and gender and sexuality.

Her research interests are exploring the mental health of both graduate and undergraduate students, equity in the classroom through an intersectional lens, and gender and sexuality. While she has experience with conducting quantitative research, qualitative research is more her bread and butter. She is currently working on her dissertation which focuses on ungrading dynamics/processes in higher education. This project seeks to explore the benefits and difficulties associated with ungrading in higher education in addition to examining the impact ungrading has on both teacher and student well-being. Lexi is particularly interested in social justice in the classroom and working to build community among students that supports their mental health while teaching students to be activists and dismantle the status quo.
