We focus on the factors that maintain high tree diversity in tropical forests. The research team investigates how natural enemies and fungi influence seedling dynamics and plant species coexistence. We also investigate how plant communities are responding to climate change through a collaborative experiment in Puerto Rico to uncover some of the effects of warming on understory plant communities in a tropical rainforest.

Big Questions

  • How can biotic interactions shape plant communities and promote coexistence?
  • How are biotic interactions altered by global change?
  • How will the plant communities of the future look like?
