QIS-AI Fellows (PhD Positions) at Oklahoma State University

The newly established QIS-AI Traineeship Program at Oklahoma State University (OSU), funded by the National Science Foundation’s NRT award, invites applications for QIS-AI Fellows (PhD positions) beginning Fall 2026. The “Accelerating Transdisciplinary Training of an Oklahoma Workforce for the Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Revolution (ATTAQ)” NRT program will create a graduate training program at the nexus of Quantum information Science (QIS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Fellows will be embedded into the vibrant graduate and research program at OSU, joining the Department of Physics, Mathematics, or other participating disciplines as their academic home.

Fellowship Details
Successful applicants will receive two full years of fellowship support at a competitive salary. Continued funding beyond the fellowship period will be provided through research or teaching assistantships in their home departments. Additionally, Fellows will be fully supported to complete an industry or national lab internship with partners in QIS and AI sectors, such as quantum computing hardware and software advanced data storage, artificial intelligence and machine learning platforms, targeted digital marketing analytics, data science for scientific applications, and mission-driven R&D at leading national laboratories. The NRT ATTAQ program also integrates professional development, career preparation, and soft-skills training into transdisciplinary graduate coursework, while providing access to a dynamic research and educational community at the intersection of QIS and AI for scientific discovery.

The Department of Physics conducts internationally recognized research in areas including QIS, high energy physics, and condensed matter physics. The Department of Mathematics has strengths in pure, applied, and computational mathematics, with active collaborations across the physical sciences and engineering.
Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in a related field (Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science), with preference given to candidates who have prior experience in QIS or AI/ML applied to physical or scientific problems. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals and permanent residents.
