Bachelor of Music in Education
The Bachelor of Music in Education prepares students to flourish in pursuit of careers as music educators. Our music education graduates continue on to become leaders as public school teachers and university instructors all over the country.
Students who choose to pursue a Bachelor of Music Education degree may choose Vocal or Instrumental Certification. The Oklahoma K-12 teaching license is granted after completion of both the degree and the required teacher certification exams.
One of our greatest resources is our diverse and vibrant faculty. Students enjoy the benefits of music educators who bring years of expertise in teaching and performing to the process of nurturing your musical development. Our program is built on the tenet that “the best way to learn to teach is by teaching.”
Through our unique Rehearsal Practicum courses, you will have multiple hands-on opportunities to work with developing music students of various ages prior to your student teaching experience. In addition to your in-class experiences, you will be part of our nationally recognized, award-winning collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for professional development beyond the classroom.
Music Education majors at OSU participate in many award-winning large and small ensembles, including choral, orchestral, symphonic and concert bands, vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles, and opera. You will also enjoy performing in and attending events at our brand new, state-of-the-art performing facility, the McKnight Center, hailed as the premier performing arts venue in this area of the country.
Oklahoma State University welcomes the opportunity to enhance the development of your personal musicianship and your “teachership” in preparation for an exciting and rewarding career in the best profession on earth — teaching music.
