Musicianship and Composition
Musicianship
Musicianship is a cornerstone in the development of young musicians. Our faculty teaches from the ABRSM method which offers up to 8 levels of courses. Each year students have the option to test out of their current level. Students that are beyond the curriculum have the option of pursuing composition with our composition faculty.
GSM Preparatory Academy will be using the ABRSM curriculum and will continue to include all levels of this curriculum as needed by our students. All beginning students age 10+ will automatically be enrolled in Musicianship 1. The fee for this course is packaged with the private lesson and group tuition.
Musicianship 1 will be held on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and will alternate weekly with studio/group classes.
Composition
Students who have passed their ABRSM Level 2 exam and would like to explore composing music should enroll in our composition lessons! Lessons are taught by Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the Greenwood School of Music, Dr. David Hier, who is also an active and accomplished composer.
Tuition includes 14 weeks of private composition lessons and the opportunity for one of the semester’s compositions to be performed at the end of term concert by the student or a faculty member.
