Dr. Sun Huh

Visiting Assistant Professor of Violin

Violinist Sun Huh is an internationally acclaimed performer and dedicated educator whose career spans Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Known for her expressive artistry and versatility, she has appeared as a soloist with prominent German orchestras including Neue Philharmonia Westfalen, Collegium Musicum Jülich, and Neue Kammerorchester Düsseldorf, with her debut at Düsseldorf’s Mozart Festival under conductor Rüdiger Bohn. Her solo performance at the UNHCR World Refugee Day ceremony in Switzerland was broadcast globally, marking one of many highlights in her wide-ranging international career.

A native of South Korea, Huh rose to prominence through top prizes in major Korean competitions including the Kyunghyang Newspaper & Ewha Womans University, Chosun Newspaper, and Kukmin Newspaper Music Concours. She later garnered international recognition through awards from the Manhattan International Music Competition, the New York International Music Concours, and the National Artist Competition.

Huh completed her Bachelor of Music at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and her Konzert-Examen at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, graduating with highest honors. She continued her education in the U.S. at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she earned her Performer Diploma, Master of Music, and Doctor of Music degrees. Her principal teachers included Stephan Picard, Ida Bieler, the late Ik-Hwan Bae, and Mark Kaplan. Her doctoral dissertation, focused on musicians’ health and performance related injuries, reflects her broad interest in performance science and pedagogy.

As an active orchestral musician, Huh has been a core member of the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, where she performs and leads masterclasses as a musical representative for D’Addario & Co., the Titin Foundations, the Shirley Givens Memorial Fellowship, and the Fundación Puertorriqueña de las Humanidades since 2019.

Huh’s career has been equally rich in chamber music. She is a founding member of the Cercis String Quartet, which won first prize at the Manhattan International Music Competition in 2022, and of the Zima Piano Trio. She has appeared at festivals such as the Edward Auer Summer Piano Workshop, Mineral Point Chamber Music Festival, Chamberfest Brown County, and the St. Andrews Chamber Music Festival in New Brunswick, Canada.

Her passion for music education is evident through her mentorship of young artists and her frequent masterclasses and lectures. She also serves as a coach with the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (DAAYO). She has served on the juries of several competitions including the Missouri Music Teachers Association (St. Louis District), the East Coast International Competition, and the New York Artist International Competition.

This fall, Dr. Sun Huh will join the Greenwood School of Music as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Violin.
