Work at the MLSC
The MLSC offers a fun working environment for undergraduate students in a variety of majors. We are fully staffed for the Spring 2025 semester.
The starting pay is $12 per hour, and tutors typically work 6-12 hours per week. Beginning tutors will tutor College Algebra, Math Functions, Preparation for Calculus, Business Calculus, and Calculus 1. After you have worked one semester, you will be able to take an exam covering Calculus II, Calculus III, and Differential Equations. If you pass the exam, you will receive a $1.25 per hour pay raise and will be able to tutor more subjects. After you have worked at the MLSC for 1 year and have passed the leveling exam, you can apply for the position of Coordinator. This comes with another pay raise and management responsibilites.
Hiring Procedures for Fall 2025
1. The MLSC hires undergraduate peer tutors. The application can be found here, and is due April 18th, 2025. You will need the name of an OSU mathematics faculty member who can recommend you for the position. You will also need your availability for the Fall 2025 semester.
2. Tutor applicants who are qualified and recommended by faculty will be invited to take a math exam covering College Algebra through Calculus I on Friday April 25th, 2025. If invited, you will be given a syllabus for the exam and you will be provided with textbooks to use during the exam.
3. Applicants who do well on the exam will be invited for interviews during dead week and finals week.
4. All hiring decisions will be made by May 9th, 2025 and all applicants will be notified.
Note: These are paid positions. The starting pay rate for a new tutor is $12 per hour, and for a greeter $10 per hour.
