about the sports media program

The School of Media and Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State offers one of the few stand-alone sports media majors in the world and was the first among NCAA-FBS member institutions to do so. All nine faculty members in the OSU Sports Media program possesses extensive practitioner experience in the sports communication industry and most focus their research on sports media, which also helps them keep up with trends and happenings in the field. All sports media majors also take industry overview and theoretical courses to provide a broad knowledge. Whereas most of our students have the option to and do takes courses from all areas, OSU Sports Media majors choose from one of two specializations for a focus: Sports Media/Multimedia JournalismFor students aspiring careers with sports journalism outlets, such as serving as announcers, bloggers, broadcasters, columnists and reporters for online sites, newspapers, radio, social media and television outlets. Sports ProductionFor behind-the-scenes careers in sports media production within the sports television, radio and film industries, as well as sports media digital production. Oklahoma State Sports Media has an in-house video production team and many of our students intern with Orange Power studios, the new in-house video production unit for OSU athletics. Oklahoma State is also one of the few universities in the world to offer graduate education in sports media, offering a track in Sports Media in the M.S. in Mass Communications.
