Mario Borunda
Associate Dean, Academic Community Excellence
Mario Borunda is the Associate Dean for Academic Community Excellence. He initiates, supports, and facilitates college and departmental efforts aimed at recruiting, retaining, and promoting all faculty, staff, and students. He oversees the strategy and implementation of initiatives to ensure a positive and supportive environment to increase academic community excellence and engagement for all members of CAS.
Borunda is a Professor of Physics and Co-Director of the Oklahoma Photovoltaic Research Institute. He obtained bachelor’s in science degrees in Mathematica and Physics from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2003 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Texas A&M University in 2008. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate at Harvard University from 2009 to 2012. Borunda was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society and has been nationally recognized for his leadership on numerous national diversity initiatives.
