Scholarship Recipients (2022)
Congratulations to all our 2022 scholarship recipients!
The Golconda Award
Abby Billman is from Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is majoring in Secondary Education with an emphasis
in Spanish. After she graduates, she plans to teach Spanish at a middle school or
high school in Oklahoma. She spent the past semester in Valencia, Spain and plans
to go to Costa Rica this summer to improve her Spanish even more.
Grace Cowherd is from Heber Springs, Arkansas. She is a professional pilot major with a minor in
Chinese. She hopes to fly internationally one day, and her goal is to fly to Asia.
Jackie Harsha will be graduating in May 2023 with degrees in both GSIS and Spanish. She is from
Edmond, Oklahoma, but considers Stillwater her home. She is spending spring 2022 studying
abroad in Granada, Spain, taking classes on Spanish culture, Islamic culture, and
Spanish language. She is also an Air Force ROTC cadet and will commission into the
United States Air Force or Space Force upon graduation.
Kennerly Holloway is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, studying biosystems and agricultural engineering with a
Spanish minor. After graduation in spring 2023, she hopes to work in the engineering
field while using her Spanish skills to better communicate with clients and associates.
John Mark Mulder is from Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a senior civil engineering major with a minor
in Spanish. He has been to Peru and will travel to Guatemala for Engineers Without
Borders. His professional interest is water treatment, and his passion is global water
sustainability. He hopes to connect with communities and make an impact through Spanish,
soccer, and civil engineering.
Carly Noone is from Allen, Texas. She is a civil engineering major in the environmental option
with a Spanish minor. Carly is learning Spanish to communicate more easily with workers
and customers in her future career field. This scholarship is helping her travel abroad
over the summer to Guatemala with Engineers Without Borders.
Hannah Slape is from Edmond, Oklahoma. She is majoring in Psychology and Pre-Nursing with a minor
in Spanish.
Zion Stidham is majoring in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. She is looking forward to graduating
and getting into the field of mental health work. She plans on getting a master's
degree and becoming a licensed mental health therapist.
Rachel Thomlinson is from Houston, Texas. She is a double major in Management Information Systems and
American Sign Language.
Katie Tidwell is from Boise, Idaho and is double majoring in International Business and Spanish.
She plans to attend law school after she graduates.
The John Sadler Award
Mary Erdmann is from Tulsa, Oklahoma and is majoring in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics with
minors in Spanish and Biochemistry. Mary will study abroad in Spain during the summer
of 2022 and plans on attending medical school after graduating.
Laura Gosz is from Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is getting her B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies
with minors in Linguistics, Classical Studies (focusing in ancient Greek), English,
and Global Studies, and she is about to complete certification in TESOL. She plans
to pursue an M.A. in Applied Linguistics for the purpose of participating in cross-cultural
translation work and documentation of minority language groups.
The William J. Ray Memorial Scholarship
Rachel Black is from Grove, Oklahoma. She is studying Secondary Education and Spanish. She hopes
to get a master's in Spanish after graduating from OSU.
The Susan Waid Childs Endowed Scholarship
Madison Young is from Arlington, Texas. She is double majoring in Spanish and Communication Sciences
and Disorders. She plans to study abroad in the spring of 2023 in Madrid, Spain.
The Frances Lee and Charles Dutreau Scholarship
Samantha Sanchez is majoring in International Business with a minor in Management. She plans to study
abroad at the International University of Cannes, France.
Madison Young is from Arlington, Texas. She is double majoring in Spanish and Communication Sciences
and Disorders. She plans to study abroad in the spring of 2023 in Madrid, Spain.
The Buck & C.A. Aldrich Endowed Scholarship in Foreign Language
Maria Risley is a junior at Oklahoma State double majoring in Secondary Education: English and
Spanish. She is interested in TESOL research, cultural and linguistic representation
in young adult literature, and loves teaching. She plans to study abroad in Granada,
Spain in fall 2022 and someday hopes to teach abroad.
The Hilde Wohlert Memorial Award
Trevor Allee (not pictured) is the Outstanding Senior for the Department of Languages and Literatures. He is majoring in Spanish and Philosophy. He has studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico and Granada, Spain.
