Advanced Standing Credit in a Language by Placement Exam
-
Students who want retroactive advanced standing credit in Spanish, French,
German or Russian must take the language placement exam by the last date on
which the course may be added during the semester.
-
Retroactive advanced standing credit is not available for ASL, Chinese, Korean,
Latin, Greek or Japanese. Please contact Anthony Valentine, for placement options in these languages.
-
Upon completion of the language placement exam, a course recommendation will
be given. The placement exam results remain valid for two semesters (not
including summer semester) following the test date. The student must complete
the placement course at Oklahoma State University within that time to receive
retroactive advanced standing credit.
-
Placement exam results need to be given to the student’s academic advisor. The
academic advisor will assist the student with enrollment in the placement course.
-
The student must earn a grade of “A” or “B” in the placement course to earn any
retroactive advanced standing credit. For example, if placed in 2713 and earning
an “A” or “B,” the student will earn six (6) hours of retroactive advanced standing
credit (1713 and 1813).
-
After all grades have been posted for the semester, the Languages and Literatures advisor will verify the score and date of the placement exam and the grade earned
in the placement course.
-
Once verified, the Advanced Standing Credit form will be completed by the Languages and Literatures Advisor and will be submitted to the Admissions
Office for the appropriate credit to be posted to the student’s transcript.
Note: This credit may be earned whether or not you plan to continue further in the
language. There is no fee for the language placement exam and no tuition or fees will be charged for credit awarded through advanced standing. The language placement exam may only be taken once unless permission is obtained from the Head of the Department of Languages and Literatures.
