Teaching or Research Assistantships/Fellowships

Graduate students in our program are supported by teaching assistantships, research assistantships, or fellowships. Graduate teaching assistantship are readily available and the current 9-month stipend is $19,944 (for M.S. students) and $23,175 (for Ph.D. students). Tuition is waived for students on assistantships.


External Funding

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Funding
    This page provides access to research funding opportunities for scientists and engineers. The major funding categories are fellowships, which are awards to individual students or recent graduates for environmental study, and research grants. Grants and fellowships are offered to researchers affiliated with academic institutions and other not-for-profit organizations.
  • National Research Council (NRC)
    Information about the Postdoctoral Research Associateship Programs that the National Research Council administers for thirty federal laboratories and NASA Research Centers at over one hundred United States and overseas locations.
  • National Science Foundation (NSF) Funding
    NSF funds research and education in science and engineering, through grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. The NSF sponsors the Graduate Research Fellowship Program, which provides three years of financial support for graduate students.
  • Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)
    ORAU is a consortium of 87 colleges and universities and a management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). ORAU works with its member institutions to help their students and faculty gain access to federal opportunities for fellowship, scholarship, and research appointments; and to organize research alliances among its members. Scholarships

  • Integrative Biology Graduate Scholarship
    Established in 1987 to fund an Integrative Biology graduate scholarship. Recipient must be a graduate student enrolled in the Department of Integrative Biology. Consideration will be given to leadership as demonstrated in worthwhile out-of-class activities. Need also may be considered a factor.
