Medical and Health Humanities
Rising from the Dust: Reframing Oklahoma's Intergenerational Trauma Legacy Towards Resilience—Joanna George, Salman Rafique, Dr. Jessica Turcat
Oklahoma's well-being is shaped by our legacy of trauma and resilience. This 2023-24 Medical Humanities Research Group fellowship project focuses on reframing narratives of historical trauma which contribute towards poor statewide health outcomes. By raising community awareness surrounding these narratives through numerous presentations like the Southern Plains Arts Humanities and Languages Conference and the Lela O'Toole Conference and through community engagement initiatives like the Uplift! Summer Parenting series, our project seeks to support a healthier culture of caregiving and healing in Oklahoma.
Environmental Humanities
Moving Orange in a Green Way—Dr. Christopher Drohan, Dr. Juan Carlos Rozo, Pavithra Priyadarshini Selvakumar
Non-Violence and Peace Humanities
No Justice, No Peace (in Oklahoma)—Dr. Sarah Griswold, Dr. Corinne Schwarz, Dr. Jin Young Kim
"No Justice, No Peace (in Oklahoma)" emerged as the themes of war, violence, punishment, resistance, and campus activism slowly coalesced during the Fall 2023-Spring 2024 academic year. At its core, our interest as members of the Non-Violence and Peace Humanities group remained centered on students' responses to flashpoints on campus. We refined our focus on an archival exploration of students' responses to 9/11 in The O'Colly, facilitating the start of a project on memory, interfaith coalitions, militaristic rhetoric, and storytelling in the wake of 9/11.
