Women of Black Wall Street
Join Dr. Brandy Thomas Wells and her former students Trader Johnston, Piper Reese and Elizabeth Thomas as they discuss the challenges and rewards of working on the important new digital resource, Women of Black Wall Street.
The project educates visitors about women’s contributions to Historic Greenwood, the thriving Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It gives users access to ten biographies, including Mary Jones Parrish, Emma Gurley, Dora Wells, Loula T. Williams, and others. The site was created at OSU in HIST 4073: Digital Methods in History (Fall 2020), taught by Dr. Brandy Thomas Wells. Students in Dr. Wells’s future courses will deepen this project and continue to contribute to Greenwood’s, Tulsa’s, Oklahoma’s, and American history.
