Garrett Looney

Advisor: Richard Boles
Research Interests: History of Protestant American Missionaries, U.S. Imperialism

Bio: Garrett Looney is a PhD candidate studying twentieth century Protestant American missionaries and their impact on domestic denominations, institutions, and culture. His work argues that the tens of thousands of Protestant missionaries deserve a more prominent position within American religious historiography, and thus shape what it means to be an American Protestant in the twentieth century. Garrett received an MA in Biblical Studies from Denver Seminary and a BA in Geography from the University of Central Arkansas.
