Those focused on a career in the music industry can seek jobs as a music producer, songwriter, video game composer, sound designer, recording engineer, studio manager, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, A & R, artist representative, booking agent, concert promoter, tour manager, tour coordinator, concert hall manager, stage manager, licensing representative, live sound engineer, or light technician.

  • How will the B.S. in Music Industry prepare me for a career in the music industry?

    Courses have been developed specifically for students seeking a career in the music industry. The B.S. in Music Industry degree curriculum consists of courses related to the three music industry income streams: music production, music publishing, and live entertainment. Students take courses in music technology, learning to record live sound and utilizing digital audio workstations (DAW) to produce recordings. Music industry students study music copyright law and music business practices. Students also learn to organize live concert events. Music industry majors can prepare for careers related to commercial music, classical music, and jazz.

  • What opportunities will be available to me while studying at OSU?

    The student-run record label Poke U Records gives music industry majors opportunities to work within the recording industry. Students are in charge of finding and selecting artists, recording, and marketing the music. Students have the chance to work at the Seretean Concert Hall and the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts. Students also have the opportunity to perform in the many ensembles offered at OSU. Music industry students gain real world work experience with internships within the music industry.
