Private Instruction

The GSM Preparatory Academy is proud to help you or your child develop valuable technical skills for their instrument. Our private instruction is founded in the belief that all can learn to play an instrument and sing!

We infuse the Suzuki philosophy, as well as modern educational practices into the development of our curriculum. Our teachers work together across the instruments in professional development and mentorship such that our students genuinely feel our students are part of a larger community. Fundamental to our private instruction are opportunities for performing, engaging with guest artists, and making music with friends.

Book Recitals

Once a student completes a book (Suzuki, Faber and Faber, etc.) students can elect to play a book recital. While book recitals are not a hard requirement, the faculty really encourage students to take on this challenge! Students that complete Book Recitals will receive a certificate and graduation tassel. As a faculty, we feel strongly that performing a book recital helps children develop intrinsic and extrinsic motivation through goal setting, autonomy, and community connection.

Book Recitals are held 3-4 times per semester on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm in Room 108.

Book Recital Requirements:

  1. Teacher approval

  2. Memorization for Suzuki Strings includes the entire book. Piano students should work to memorize 6 songs.

  3. Book Recital Fee: $25
