Kimberly Hale

Dr. Kimberly J. Hale is an assistant professor of American Sign Language. She came to OSU in August 2022. Dr. Hale's mission is to increase equity and access for members of the Deaf community through her research, teaching and service.
Dr. Hale's research focuses on working and learning in post-secondary ASL-English interpreting programs in the United States. Her focus is on the teaching and learning of ASL and Interpreting and understanding challenges faced by ASL and Interpreting faculty.
She is currently the ASL Program coordinator and teaches courses in ASL, ASL linguistics and interpreting. One of her favorite courses to teach is an Introduction to Deaf Literature course in conjunction with the Honors College.
Dr. Hale has been a professional ASL-English interpreter for over 2 decades. She has interpreted everything from pre-school to graduate school, and interrogation rooms to board rooms. She hold national certification as an interpreter (CI, CT, NAD IV) and a Superior rating on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).
Dr. Hale also holds Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the Intentional Coaching Federation.
