Nijal Munankarmi got his MFA from the University of Texas at Arlington, he specializes in the intersection of design and cultural studies, with a strong focus on typography, visual storytelling, and interactive media.

In addition to his research on cultural identity, he is increasingly involved in design justice. He aims to use design as a tool to expose and address pressing social issues. Through thoughtful, impactful design, he is committed to bringing awareness to global challenges such as inequality, representation, and environmental sustainability. His work empowers underrepresented communities and advocates for a more inclusive, equitable design practice.

His MFA thesis exhibition, which focused on preserving the Newari language of Nepal through augmented reality, garnered attention for its innovative use of technology in cultural preservation. The exhibition sparked essential conversations about indigenous languages and their place in the modern world. He has also presented his work at a few conferences and exhibitions, receiving recognition for their contributions to cultural preservation through design.

His achievements include a few awards at the local level and a couple of exhibitions in Dallas, which reflect his dedication to using design as a force for cultural and social change. He is passionate about guiding students to think critically about the role of design in society, encouraging them to combine technical proficiency with a socially conscious approach.

As a faculty member, he emphasizes the importance of craftsmanship, professionalism, and intellectual engagement. He helps students refine their design skills and recognize the broader impact of their work on the world.
