Elena Masrour
Visiting Assistant Professor
Elena Masrour is an Iranian interdisciplinary artist working across printmaking, drawing, and painting.
She received an MFA in Painting from Kansas State University and a BFA in Fiber &
Textile Design from the Tehran University of Art.
Elena's artistic research centers around the significant influence of religious propaganda
during the last forty-six years, especially following the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
She highlights the results of societal changes via her artwork, focusing on the realities
faced by contemporary Iranian women. She criticizes the impact of Islamic fundamentalist
views, which have prevented progress and restricted personal liberties, especially
for women in Iranian society.
Her work has been exhibited nationally/internationally in several group exhibitions
such as the Masur Museum of Art Painting Exhibition, Full Court Press Print Exhibition
of the Americas at Texas A&M University, Washington Printmaking Gallery, and The Louise
Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, and solo exhibitions at the Massillon Museum
of Art, the Waterloo Art Gallery, PAR projects, and the Lawrence Art Center.
