B.S. Mathematics and Statistics '72

Growing up in Stigler, Oklahoma, Ron Ward learned at an early age the value of education and a strong work ethic.

His mother, Gladys, was a schoolteacher and his father, James, a rancher. Ward took those attributes to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics.

“Education at OSU — regardless of your degree — is learning how to learn effectively, which is one of the best starts for a successful career,” Ward said, adding that it’s also vital to be constantly ready to learn. “Never be complacent or static with what knowledge or skill you have, and never be afraid of hard work.”

While at OSU, Ward met and married his wife, Cindy. Together in 1975 they started Ward Construction and Ward Investments. Both companies are now approaching 50 years in operation, boasting countless regional projects and the management of over 500,000 square feet of commercial property.

Throughout his career, Ward has been active in industry service and philanthropic efforts. He served as chairman of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Oklahoma Board, chairman of the El Reno Public Schools Foundation and councilman for the city of El Reno. In 2004, Ward was appointed to the OSU Alumni Board of Directors, and in 2012 he was elected chairman. His philanthropy includes the Ward Family Fund that regularly gives to educational, faith and nonprofit causes.

Ward has dedicated a great deal of time and energy to improving his alma mater, including overseeing the construction of the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center while serving as the OSU Alumni Association president.

“It’s the focal point for all kids coming to campus, where future Cowboys and Cowgirls start student tours,” Ward said. “I’ve seen and heard firsthand how the building serves the mission of OSU by being a gathering place for campus.”

Ward and Cindy have two children, Kent and Amanda, and two children-in-law, Asma and Josh. The Wards currently enjoy following their four grandchildren’s activities. Ward’s hobbies include golf, fishing, hunting, piloting his plane and — of course — supporting OSU sports teams.
