Landon W. Holman, II
B.S. ’72 – Geology
Landon W. Holman is a native Oklahoman, born in Stillwater, who graduated with a B.S. in geology from OSU in 1972. He has 50 years of experience in oil and gas exploration, beginning his career with Sun Oil Company right after earning his degree. He was later employed with Tenneco Oil Company, Cobra Oil & Gas, Louisiana Land and Exploration Company, and Mewbourne Oil Company. From 2003 until 2013, Landon was a geoscience manager for Chesapeake Energy. Ten years ago, he formed a new exploration business in Oklahoma City — Red Mountain Energy, LLC — with three partners, retiring from the company in late 2021.
A certified petroleum geologist, Landon has been a long-time member of the Oklahoma
City Geological Society, the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists,
the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the AAPG Division of Professional
Affairs. As a member of AAPG, Landon was a delegate for over 18 years and served on
several committees. He has been a director with the Oklahoma Geological Foundation
since 2016 and he recently joined the board of The State Capitol Publishing Museum
in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Landon is a member of the Alumni Advisory Board of OSU’s Boone Pickens School of Geology
(BPSoG) and has served as director-at-large and chairman. In 2021 he received both
the Honorary Membership Award from BPSoG and Lifetime Membership with the College
of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Circle, along with his wife, Kathy.
Landon has a strong interest in elementary, secondary and higher education, with an
emphasis on earth science. He is enjoying traveling with his wife and spending more
time with their two daughters, Diana and Angela, their sons-in-law and six grandchildren.
