American Indians Into Psychology Summer Enrichment Program
About the Program
The AIIP Summer Enrichment Program is designed to help American Indian students gain exposure to the diverse aspects of the field of psychology through research, clinical and educational activities. The program consists of three components:
Research: Engage with faculty and graduate students in the clinical and experimental psychology programs and learn about ongoing American Indian research that addresses topics of significance to Indigenous communities.
Clinical: Visit tribal healthcare and social service agencies to learn firsthand about careers in psychology, social work, and related fields and to observe how professionals provide services within American Indian communities.
Professional Development: Attend weekly seminars featuring scholars and professionals from across the state and nation who present and discuss topics related to American Indian psychology, research, career development, graduate education, and preparation for the graduate school application process.
The program is held annually during the final two weeks of May. Following a one-day
orientation, weekdays are devoted to research, clinical, and professional development
activities. Participants receive a $1,000 stipend and must attend the program in person in
Stillwater. Please note that housing is not included.
Cultural Experiences: The program includes visits to Tribal Nations across Oklahoma,
attendance at powwows, and opportunities to learn about Native arts, cultures, histories,
and traditions.
