Graduate Studies
Graduate Study in History
We are a vibrant and dynamic department with an outstanding graduate faculty whose research expertise spans the globe. We help support our students’ travel for research, conferences and internships, and we offer competitive graduate assistantships that provide our students with valuable classroom experience, financial support and a monthly stipend.
We grant degrees in numerous research fields at both the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, with deep expertise in Native American history, public history, war and society, race and ethnicity, women, gender and sexuality, the U.S. West, and the history of religion. We provide close and creative mentorship and a strong support system for our students.
Plans of Study
Master of Arts
Our Master of Arts degree includes two different plans of study and prepares students for careers within and beyond the academy.
M.A. Public History Track
Our public history program offers students hands-on experience that will serve them in a variety of professional fields.
Doctor of Philosophy
Doctoral students work closely with faculty mentors to refine critical research and writing skills.
