Community Engagement

The College of Arts and Sciences Community Engagement Award recognizes excellence in community-engaged activities that, in line with guidelines of the Carnegie Foundation, “reflect collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional, state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity." The award consists of a cash prize and a plaque.

2024 Winner — Mette Flynt

Dr. Flynt’s multifaceted service bridges university, academic and external communities. Her contributions reflect her dedication to public history and emphasize the integration of teaching, research and community service. Additionally, Dr. Flynt advances community engagement by involving students in an active oral history program. This semester, graduate students are interviewing individuals connected to the history department’s past, including staff, donors, and alumni. Mette Flynt embodies the values of the CAS Community Engagement Award through her extensive service and dedication to bridging academia and community needs.
