We are thrilled to share exciting news about the establishment of the Smith and Nancy Holt Endowment for Undergraduate Research in the Arts and Humanities. Building on the momentum of the Center for the Humanities’ PhilanthroPete campaigns—which highlighted the need for expanded undergraduate research and travel opportunities in the arts and humanities—this generous gift represents a major step forward. “Nancy and I are delighted to help provide OSU arts and humanities undergraduates the opportunity to participate in a research experience," said Smith Holt. By providing funding for student research and travel, the endowment will open new pathways for hands-on inquiry, discovery, and scholarly growth, ensuring that more students can engage in these transformative experiences at the heart of a humanities education.
This award is intended to support undergraduate researchers in the Humanities and Arts by providing funds to support research-related travel, including presentations at regional, national, or even international conferences, and original research at museums, libraries, or other archives. We are excited to see more undergraduates from these fields participating in research at OSU!
This award is organized by the OSU Center for the Humanities; funding has been made possible with donor contributions.

Application Information
Undergraduate students with majors or minors in the arts or humanities (Art, Graphic Design, and Art History; Music; Theater; English; History; Languages and Literatures; Philosophy; Interdisciplinary Programs)
Undergraduate students with a specific arts or humanities research project
A brief proposal describing your project, how the travel benefits you, travel plans, presentation format, etc.
A projected budget of expenses, including airfare, transportation, lodging, meals, registration, photocopying/scanning, etc.
Documentation of research or presentation plans, such as a conference program or acceptance notice, letter from an archive, etc.
The name and email address of a mentor or faculty advisor who can vouch for your research plans.
Disclosure of any other travel or research funding for which you have applied for this trip. Please note the status of those applications (under consideration, pending, awarded, etc.).
