An Oklahoma State University music professor is offering a new, non-credit piano class for Stillwater-area adults.  Aimed at beginners and those who wish to brush up on their skills, Introduction to Piano will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5:30 and 6:20 p.m. from Aug. 22 – Dec. 8 inside the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts at OSU.

fohlaren1Shortly after 7 am on Saturday, September 3, 2016, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Pawnee. While only injuring one, the temblor registered as the strongest quake in Oklahoma state history, and tied for the strongest quake registered in the continental U.S. outside of the Western region.

The occurrence of such a powerful earthquake also provided an OSU research team, led by recent Master’s recipient Folarin Kolawole, a unique opportunity to chart how the earth is susceptible to change under the stress of seismic events.

Morrill Hall, the present-day home to the OSU English Department, is one of the oldest buildings still standing on the OSU-Stillwater campus. However, looking at the magnificent architecture of the building’s construction, the casual observer might be oblivious of the obstacles that had to be overcome in order to ensure the construction and maintenance of the building. Meeting the challenges of Morrill Hall would affect and guide the history of the campus that would eventually become Oklahoma State University.
