The Strategic Communication major blends an integrated curriculum to teach you how to tell great stories to attract target audiences. You'll learn how to work with the media across multiple platforms, and how to write, record and publish effectively. After building a foundation, you will receive extensive hands-on experience in researching, writing, designing and publishing digital and print advertisements, communication plans and strategic campaigns. Over the course of the program, you will build a professional digital portfolio that showcases your talent and skills. Your professors are industry professionals who provide you with insight that goes beyond mere textbook knowledge. As one of the few undergraduate programs that combine creative disciplines and business courses, you will have a competitive edge with a skillset to meet the demands of the real world.
Courses to expect for this major include Introduction to Strategic Communication, Copywriting and Creative Strategy, Graphic Design, and Advanced PR Writing.
Upon graduation Strategic Communication majors are able to meet the diverse communications needs of any client or media outlet. You will create and maintain a professional portfolio that is turned in as part of the senior capstone course. Finish in Four
The Finish in Four plans are designed to assist you in an eight semester plan guiding you to graduate within four years. You may use this as a guide to plan your undergraduate education, but you should adjust it to fit your personal goals.
Scholarships are available for prospective freshmen, transfer students, current students and continuing students through the University, College of Arts and Sciences, and respective Departments.
When you complete the OSU admission application, you are automatically considered for the University Level scholarships.
Students are eligible for College Level scholarships within the College of Arts and Sciences after completing 12 hours at OSU. Some exceptions may apply. See specific scholarships for criteria.
