All events will take place Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 2-4 p.m.

Art, Graphic Design & Art History
Join us for our first Art Break of the fall semester! Students will have the opportunity to make their own Art Department T Shirts, enjoy refreshments and meet faculty and staff members. Students representing the three main Art Department clubs will also be present to answer questions and provide information.

Communication Sciences and Disorders
Learn how to get involved in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department! Enjoy a popcorn bar and mocktails while you meet a professor, sign up to help with research, buy a T-shirt, volunteer at Homecoming events and much more! This is your one-stop shop to get plugged in as a CDIS major. There are many opportunities waiting for YOU.

The Department of Chemistry would like to welcome our incoming Biochemistry (BIOC) and Chemistry freshmen and transfer students to our school. We hope you will join us so you can meet some of our exceptional faculty and learn more about our department, degree plans, research labs, and student organizations. Join us in the Computer Science Collaborative Learning Laboratory (MSCS 206) for snacks and a trivia game. Visit the robotics, immersive computing, and cyber physcial labs. At 2:00 and 3:00, faculty will describe their courses and research areas. Upperclassman and graduate students will be available to answer your questions about courses and opportunities in the CS Department.

The Department of English is excited to host a welcome reception for our new freshmen. Please join us for a come and go gathering where you can meet fellow English majors and faculty, explore our program options, hear tips and strategies from our seniors, win prizes, and more. Also learn about our student organizations: Frontier Mosaic, the Creative Writers Association, and Film Club.

The discipline of Geography is so much more diverse than most students think; geography extends beyond the world regional geography most people have had in school. OSU Geography is a close-knit and friendly department. Our courses range from Geographic Information Systems and computer mapping, to global studies, cultural studies to human/environmental studies. We definitely focus on students and invite you to meet some faculty and students, get refreshments and some swag, and take informal tours of our student spaces.

The Boone Pickens School of Geology would like to like to welcome our incoming freshmen and transfer students to our school. Welcome to the History Department! Join us for fun and refreshments as we celebrate the start of a new academic year. Freshman will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with History faculty and students, learn about history student organizations, and explore the department’s facilities through a scavenger hunt.

Come meet some of the wonderful people of Integrative Biology! Meet us on the lawn outside of LSW for snacks and the chance to meet some of our faculty, staff, and students. If you are interested in research, this is a great opportunity to start making connections. We will have tours of a few labs and a display from the Collection of Vertebrates. Tours will be ongoing from 2-4, so come when you can and leave when you need to! Have questions about the snakes on the first floor? Want to know who studies daphnia and who studies dolphins? Come find out!

Languages & Literature
The Department of Languages and Literatures would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the start of a new academic year! Please join us to meet with faculty from all of our different languages including American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Latin, Russian and Spanish. You can learn how to major or minor in our languages, how to join a Language Club, and what Study Abroad opportunities are available. We hope to see you there!

The math department is excited to host its new majors for a pizza party and fun activities to give you an idea of the wide range of interesting classes, student jobs, and career opportunities we have for math majors. Come enjoy some pizza and cookies while interacting with our faculty and senior math majors. You’ll have the opportunity to learn an amazing mathematical card trick, do a short origami project, take part in a cryptography activity, learn some number tricks, talk with our Director of Undergraduate Studies and Academic Advisor about the math major, take a tour of our 3-D printing lab, and find out about the Mathematics Learning Success Center and employment opportunities. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone!

Media & Strategic Communications
The School of Media and Strategic Communications invites all new students interested in multimedia journalism, sports media and strategic communication (advertising and public relations) to a scavenger hunt meet and greet in the Paul Miller Journalism Building. Students can enjoy cookies with our director, faculty, staff and current majors while learning about student organizations and how to work for the O’Colly Media Group this fall. Tour our amazing studio and labs and you might win a door prize!

Join us at a reception for new students in the Greenwood School of Music! Interact with faculty from the winds/brass/percussion, strings, voice, keyboard, music industry, and music academic areas. Meet student leaders from the Music Student Advisory Council, OSU’s chapter of the National Association for Music Education, and the music service fraternities Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Let us answer all your questions about being involved in music at Oklahoma State! Refreshments provided.

Plants are awesome! Find out how these silent green citizens of the world take energy from the sun and make it into foods that we eat, how they seem like statues but are actually incredibly sensitively responding to all that weather, animals, and humans can throw at them? Whether you want to be a field biologist, or work in a molecular lab, or create new types of plants, or find new drugs for human health, we can help you. Come and eat pizza while we tell you (briefly) how studying plants can be a fulfilling career, lots of fun, and will help save our world. We will show you some of the varied research on plants that we do and send you off with a native plant to grow on your own. Lab tours will go on throughout the reception time, led by plant biology majors and grad students. We hope to see you in Plant Biology!

Hey Sociology Freshmen! We invite you to an informal “meet and greet” in your honor. Meet your fellow Sociology majors; learn about the Sociology Club; hear about other opportunities that may interest you; and receive a tour of departmental facilities available for your use! Hideaway pizza and drinks will be provided. So make sure to come by Murray Hall parlor to meet your classmates (and maybe even a few of your course instructors, too)!

The Department of Statistics will hold a Meet and Greet with members of the faculty and students for new freshmen statistics majors. New majors will learn about employment opportunities within the Department, and will also be able to engage faculty about their research. We will discuss other opportunities, such as internships, consulting, and instruction through our SI program. Pizza and other refreshments will be served.

Spend some dedicated time with our faculty and staff discussing college and career goals and answer any and all questions about our program. We will have representatives from our student theatre organization there as well as all the directors of this seasons productions for you to meet and network with to plan for your participation on or off stage.
