About
I have been at OSU since 1980 and retired in 2021. However, I keep my office and am busy on some small research projects. I no longer can chair graduate research committees, but I serve on them.
My specialty is applied climatology. I have had research grants from NOAA, NASA, and the U.S. DOE. I have published in a variety of journals in the geographic and the atmospheric sciences, including the Annals of the Association of American Geographers and the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. I was a founder of and remain on the steering committee of the Oklahoma Mesonetwork, the state’s weather-observing network.
Currently, I am working on Oklahoma wind power issues and public uses of the Mesonet’s web site. I have an abiding interest in geographic education and have been the National Geographic Society’s Geography Steward for Oklahoma. In this role, I try to improve K-12 geographic education. My recent courses have included Physical Geography, Climatology, Meteorology, and Climate Change and Humanity.
