Crystal Bridges Field Trip 2019
The Department of Art Graphic Design & Art History took a field trip to Crystal Bridges
Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, on March 8, 2019. Seventy-two students
and faculty attended and were given guided tours of the permanent collection of the
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the current visiting exhibition Men of Steel, Women of Wonder.
Early American Gallery
Crystal Bridges’ permanent collection spans five centuries of American masterworks
ranging from the colonial era to the current day. Included within the collection are
iconic images such as Asher B. Durand’s Kindred Spirits, Rosie the Riveter by Norman Rockwell, and Andy Warhol’s Dolly Parton, each reflecting a distinct moment in American artistic evolution.
Men of Steel, Women of Wonder
Superman and Wonder Woman are two of the most beloved icons in American pop culture.
Created in times of economic adversity and world war, these characters quickly emerged
as beacons of American morality, representing the ideals of truth, justice and the
American way.
The artists in Men of Steel, Women of Wonder use Superman and Wonder Woman to explore national identity, American values, social politics, representation and the concept of humanity in this exciting, thought-provoking exhibition.

After a wonderful day at Crystal Bridges, the group continued on to 21c Hotel and
Museum where they took a tour of the current exhibition Future is Female and spoke with the museum manager where he explained the 21c concept. With more than
12,000 square feet of exhibition space seamlessly integrated into all areas of the
property, there were opportunities to discover art around every corner.
