Laura Belmonte joined OSU's faculty in 1996. She is the College of Arts and Sciences' Associate Dean for Instruction and Personnel, and a Professor of History. She previously served as Department Head of History (2014-2018) and director of American Studies (2007-2012).

A specialist in the history of U.S. foreign relations, she is author of "Selling the American Way: U.S. Propaganda and the Cold War" and numerous articles on cultural diplomacy. She is also co-author of "Global Americans: A Transnational U.S. History" and editor of "Speaking of America: Readings in U.S. History." Her new book, "Global Gay Rights: A History of the International LGBT Movement," will be published by Bloomsbury. Her next major project examines the history of U.S. global policy on HIV/AIDS. She has served on the U.S. Department of State’s Historical Advisory Committee on Diplomatic Documentation since 2009.
