Theatre Department to Host New York City Playwright |
|
Jan. 21, 2009 The OSU Department of Theatre will explore the complex parent and child relationship through staged readings by playwright James Farrell at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the Jerry Davis Studio Theatre in Gundersen Hall. The reading of two of Farrell’s short plays will be directed by J. Kevin Doolen, head of the theater department. The first play, Black & White & Blue, will be performed by theater instructor Brigitte Mahaney and junior Anthony Hill. The second play, Transplant, will be performed by assistant professor Matt Tomlanovich and senior Katelyn Anderson. Both plays will be narrated by master’s student Wilhelmina McLafferty. A lecture and question and answer session follow. The reading is free and open to the public. “Having worked with Mr. Farrell as both a director and theatre department administrator in New York, I know firsthand of the quality of his writing and that he’s a wonderful, generous mentor to student writers,” said Doolen. “His considerable credits in major regional theaters, including New York City, offer important opportunities for our students at Oklahoma State.”

Journalism Student to Attend Presidential Inauguration |
|
Jan. 15, 2009 On Jan. 20 the United States will swear in its new president, and one OSU student will not have to be one of the millions watching it unfold on television. Journalism senior Alex Elliott has a ticket to the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, and will fly out Saturday to witness history firsthand. Tickets to the inauguration are hard to get, as state legislatures only have so many to give to constituents. Rep. Frank Lucas had 10 requests for every ticket that he had available, Elliott said.
“I first thought that I might have a ticket the Sunday before Christmas,” Elliott said, “I was telling my mom how Bruce Springsteen was going to be playing at the inauguration and she had this big grin on her face.” |
