Political Science Professor Named to Top OSU Post |

March 27, 2009 Jason F. Kirksey, an associate professor in political science recently was named interim associate vice president for Institutional Diversity at OSU. Kirksey, who is the Hannah D. Atkins Endowed Chair for Political Science and Government Information at OSU, will continue in his teaching role. He also is director of the OSU Center for Africana Studies and Development.
“I want to thank the search committee for finding an excellent candidate to hold this important position as we conduct a national search,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “Jason is uniquely qualified to hold this position and I appreciate his willingness to assume this additional assignment while continuing to teach.” |

Arts and Humanities Lecture Series: Cast Iron Artist to Conduct Pour |

March 23, 2009 Artist Vaughn Randall will transform 2,000 pounds of scrap iron into art on April 18 at OSU. Randall’s iron-pouring workshop will take place the day after he delivers a lecture about his experiences working in a Chinese cast iron foundry. The lecture is at 3 p.m. on April 17 at the Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts.
On April 18, workshop participants may observe sand mold and iron preparation, furnace operation and molten-iron pouring. Under supervision, they also will be able create their own molds. Attendees may purchase molds at the pour. “Vaughn’s creative sensibility and unique background in foundry pattern making and sculpture make him outstanding in both the arts and industry,” said Adam Labe, assistant art professor at OSU who is coordinating Randall’s visit. |

Oklahoma Heritage Association to Honor History Professor |

March 17, 2009 An OSU professor will be honored March 31 for his contributions to preserving Oklahoma’s local and state history. The Oklahoma Heritage Association will present William Bryans, an associate professor in history, with the Bass/McCaslin Award for Excellence in Teaching Oklahoma History.
The honor will be presented March 31 at the Oklahoma Heritage Association’s Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Luncheon in Tulsa. “I consider what I do as public scholarship,” said Bryans who has taught U.S. and Oklahoma history courses at OSU since 1987. “The award recognizes the extension of my teaching beyond the traditional classroom and includes the public, which makes me very happy.” |
