Arts and Sciences Welcomes 2 New Department Heads |

The College of Arts and Sciences welcomes two new department heads.
Subhash C. Kak, a recipient of several of India’s most prestigious science awards, was appointed professor and head of the Department of Computer Science.
Loren M. Smith was named professor and head of the Department of Zoology. Smith has established himself as one of the leading experts on playa wetlands in prairie, semi-arid or arid environments.

Journalism School Kicks Off Sports Media Camp |

Oklahoma State University’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting kicked off its inaugural Sports Media Camp on June 7 in Stillwater.
Eight high school students took part in a three-day camp that gave each the chance to learn about careers in sports media. “This was a great opportunity to give students an inside look at a rapidly growing industry,” said Tom Weir, director of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting. The camp also highlighted the School’s newest degree program that launches
this fall.

Three Arts and Sciences Faculty Appointed Regents Professors |

Five Oklahoma State University professors – including three from the College of Arts and Sciences – recently were appointed Regents Professors.
Charles I. Abramson, Riley E. Dunlap and Peter M.A. Sherwood, all of the College of Arts and Sciences, each were recipients of the prestigious honor, which is bestowed to recognize a scholar or creative artist of exceptional ability who has achieved national and international distinction. Nominees must be recognized by colleagues, nationally and internationally, for past and current unique contributions and accomplishments in several areas within their discipline.
