Bruce Crauder is Associate Dean for Instruction and Personnel for the College of Arts and Sciences, a position he has held since 1997. Crauder has twice served as Interim Dean, once in 1998-1999 and again in 2003-2004. Bruce Crauder graduated from Haverford College in 1976, receiving a B.A. with honors in mathematics. From there he went to Columbia University, earning his M.S. degree in 1977 and his Ph.D. in 1981 in mathematics, writing a dissertation on algebraic geometry. After post-doctoral positions at the Institute for Advanced Study, the University of Utah, and the University of Pennsylvania, Crauder came to OSU in 1986 and is now a Professor of Mathematics at OSU.

Crauder's research in algebraic geometry has resulted in 10 refereed articles in as many years in his specialty, three-dimensional birational geometry. Crauder has since worked on the challenge of the beginning college math curriculum, resulting in the creation of two new courses with texts to support the courses. One text is in its 6th edition with Cengage Learning, while the other is in its 2nd edition with Freeman/Macmillan Publishers. Crauder is especially pleased that these texts combine scholarship with his passion for teaching.
